KeyTone is a piano-centred cinematic instrument designed for emotional underscore, subtle motion, and tonal depth.
It brings together sampled acoustic and electric piano sources with layered sound design, creating a focused palette for film, documentary, and minimal storytelling.

Core Piano Sources:

KeyTone is built from multiple piano types, each sampled with a clear and musical intent:

  • A concert-style grand piano
  • A medium-sized grand piano
  • A compact upright piano
  • A classic electric tine piano

All instruments are captured with a single, coherent perspective, up to five dynamic layers, preserving the natural character and immediacy of each source.

The result is a piano tone that feels close, human, and emotionally direct — ideal for underscore and reflective writing.

In addition to traditional playing, KeyTone includes selective, musically restrained techniques that expand the tonal vocabulary:

  • Directly plucked piano strings
  • Hammered string textures using soft mallets
  • Felt-treated upright piano tones
  • Low, octave-focused and textural piano variations

These elements are designed as colour and texture, blending seamlessly with the core piano sounds rather than standing apart from them.

Layered Cinematic Design

At the heart of KeyTone is its layer-based approach.
Alongside the acoustic and electric pianos, the pack includes a wide range of processed layers, all derived from the piano material itself:

  • Expansive reverbs and spatial tails
  • Particle-like textures and diffused motion
  • Delays, echoes, and harmonic trails
  • Soft evolving beds and tonal clouds

Up to four layers can be combined, allowing a simple piano performance to open into something wider, deeper, and more cinematic — while always remaining anchored to the original tone.
Many of these layers can also be played on their own, offering ambient and pad-like textures with a clear piano identity.

KeyTone is built around clarity, balance, and focus. By keeping the structure streamlined and intentional, the instrument encourages slower writing, fewer notes, and stronger emotional decisions.

Because of the large amount of samples included in this pack's presets, we do not advise to open it on a IOS device (iPad or similar)

Important:  Due to iPadOS file-handling limits and Soundbox’s sample loading architecture, it may fail to load properly, crash, or perform unpredictably on iPad/other iOS devices. For reliable performance, use on a desktop system (macOS/Windows) with Soundbox.

KeyTone includes a large number of high-quality samples and layered instruments.

Due to the way SOUNDBOX handles sample loading, voice allocation, and polyphony, this pack can be CPU- and RAM-intensive, especially when playing dense chords or using high polyphony settings.

For best performance, a modern, high-spec computer is recommended.

Users on lower-spec systems may experience increased CPU usage and should consider reducing polyphony, buffer size, or simultaneous voices.
